Korea Defense Minister want BTS to serve in military service

The mandatory military service of the K-Pop band, BTS, is very close, however, it continues to be treated by Korean government to get the best decision. Recently, the Minister of Defense has shared his position before exception request.

On Tuesday, October 4th, Lee Jong-Suup, Minister of Defense of South Korea, shared his opinion about exempting the members of the group of boys from their military service during the interpellation session of the National Defense Committee, with the project of law proposed by Kim Young-Bae.

Young-Bae proposes to allow the appearance of celebrities such as BTS, who have received awards from the Government, in order to finally carry out an alternative form of military service. To which the defense minister said that:

It is desirable for #BTS to serve in the military, but result will be respected if National Assembly amends the law“.

After the bill, which suggested that the provisions for athletes, actors and classic musicians with international impact are made available to musicians such as BTS, the minister declared that it would be “difficult“, expand this service to the group due to “aspects of equity related to the performance of mandatory military service“.
