BTS‘ military service has been a topic that has divided Korean citizens for months. On September 4th, Jowon C&I, a company specializing in public opinion polling, announced the results of “BTS’ military service exemption special investigation“.
The investigation was conducted at the request of Straight News. More than 1,000 citizens from across the country participated in the survey. In the results, it was found that 54.1% of the voters were in favor of BTS enlisting in their mandatory military service duties.
40.1% of the respondents said that BTS should get the exemption or special benefits. Respondents who agreed that BTS should enlist in the military spoke equally for men and women in all regions.

In conclusion, 73.2% of the people in the survey think that BTS should join the military. Thus, 73.2% of the 20-year-olds surveyed voted against the exemption.
On September 1st, the Department of National Defense released a statement revealing that it had requested a public opinion poll regarding BTS’ military enlistment. But in the end, they reversed their decision to make this public consultation, after receiving several criticisms.
