GOT7’s Jay B vents about the hardships of being a leader

On May 11th, episode 5 of Jay B‘s video collection for DIVE Studio’s health and wellness app, Mindset, was released. Titled “The Weight of Leading GOT7“, the singer shared what it’s really like to be the leader of the group.

Jay B kicked off the episode by revealing that he didn’t want to be the leader of GOT7. In fact, he asked JYP Entertainment not to give him the job.

When I was young, it was hard to accept the title of ‘GOT7 leader’. So I told the agency several times that I didn’t want to be the leader“, the idol confessed.

Unlike Jay B, Lim Jae Beom (his real name) is actually very quiet and shy. Since I got a job where I have to show off and promote myself to the public, my personality has changed, but back then I didn’t talk much.

So I often wondered if this job was for me“.

When there was a problem, it was my responsibility to coordinate with the agency and the band members. I was a little cautious and quite scared of having such big responsibilities at a young age. But fortunately, GOT7 received a lot of love“.

But as soon as we decided not to renew [our contracts] with JYP, I suddenly became tense. I felt like I had to hold on to that moment and our identity.

Even though we stayed as a group, we all took different paths, I felt I had to act as the common thread or rope that kept us connected.

I realized that it was up to me to make the plans for the team’s activities and also the long-term future for the team“, Jay B. explained.

Despite his worries about becoming the leader of GOT7, Jay B has proven his skills to be one of the top leaders in K-pop. He learned more about the legal issues to claim trademarks and copyrights related to GOT7 in the right way.
