The director of ‘Turning Red’ confirmed that she was inspired by BTS

Turning Red‘ is the most recent Disney and Pixar movie that is already gaining big amount of fans. This film shows how the friendship, the changes of any adolescent and the fanaticism for the musical boygroups works these days.

The film presents the story of Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl who is undecided between remaining the obedient daughter of her mother, Ming, who is an overprotective mother. And as if the changes of adolescence weren’t enough for her, every time ‘Mei Mei’ gets too excited, she turns into a giant red panda.

In recent days, the premiere generated a stir on social networks according to the presence of a musical group called ‘4 town‘, created especially for the film. And the controversy was that BTS fans speculated that one of the members of this group called Tae Young was inspired by Jimin, one of the members of the Korean boy band.

Regarding to this,  the film director, Domee Shi, on a recent interview with the magazine Trome confirmed that Tae Young’s character was truly inspired by BTS. She said:

he is inspired by all the ‘boybands’ throughout history. I mean when I grew up, when I was of age, it wasn’t BTS, it was Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC.

But we definitely get a K-pop boy band nod to BTS with ‘Tae Young’ in the movie. 4town represents all the boy bands in history”, said director Domee Shi.
