Adele’s album “30” was the best-selling album of 2021 worldwide, according to information from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) report. And it is worth mentioning that all this in record time! After all, the work was officially launched in November, very close to the end of the year.
With only 6 weeks of counting, “30” managed to surpass the sales of Olivia Rodrigo and Justin Bieber, who were in second and third place, respectively. The federation considers all sales formats, whether physical or digital. With the feat, Adele became the first artist to lead the ranking of best-selling albums in 4 years (2011, 2012, 2015 and 2021).
Rounding out the Top 3 are the albums “SOUR”, by Olivia Rodrigo, and “Justice”, by Justin Bieber. Only very successful records, as we can see. Announced this Tuesday, March 1st “30” dominates all three of the international trade body’s records as it hits No. global vinyl albums.
Despite its release only in November 2021, the album was an immediate global success, reaching number one in more than 20 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
“It was wonderful to have Adele back and release music in the second half of last year” , comments Frances Moore, CEO of IFPI.
“His dominance of all three IFPI album charts speaks to his unique songwriting talent, iconic voice and relentless global popularity”
“We are thrilled to award Adele and her entire team the IFPI Global Album All Format Award and send you big congratulations on a stellar year”, Moore continues.
