Andrew Garfield, who played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, has admitted that he lied to his colleague Emma Stone about his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. What’s better is that he told what was the reaction of the star, who accompanied Garfield in the Spidey tape as Gwen Stacy.
Although Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man films received largely divided reviews from critics and audiences alike, both Garfield and Stone received critical acclaim for their performances in their respective roles, primarily for their chemistry and humor.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Andrew Garfield admitted that he misled Emma Stone about her role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor recalled Stone frequently texting him to ask if she was in the movie, which he always refused.
Stone finally learned the truth when she went to the theater to see the tape.
“Emma kept texting me and was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man movie?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.
‘ [Laughs] She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me.’ I was like, ‘Honestly, I don’t know,’ I couldn’t even tell him, it was funny.
And then she saw it and said, ‘You’re an idiot.
[Laughs] I didn’t want to tell anyone, I took it very seriously, I didn’t tell anyone“.
Garfield’s efforts to keep his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home a secret paid off, despite the leaks. Still, the tape was a box office success at the close of 2021.
