This Friday, November 26th, it was reported that RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook requested postponement of mandatory military service. South Korean law says that all 28-year-olds must enlist, but BTS plans to extend that deadline until December 2022.
According to the Koreaboo website, this information comes after reports emerged that the Korean National Assembly met to discuss a revision of the Military Service Law that would allow popular and cultural impact artists to replace their military service with voluntary work.
BTS previously received permission to defer their enlistment until age 30 because they won the Hwagwan Award for the group’s efforts to spread the Korean language and culture around the world.

This permission mainly benefits Jin, who is the oldest member of the group and will turn 30 in December 2022. If the postponement were not allowed, the artist would already have to enlist in the military next month.
Remembering that in South Korea age counting is done in a different way. For Koreans, when you are born you are already one year old. This is because they round the nine months of pregnancy.
In Jin’s case, he turns 29 years of international age in December, thus exceeding the enlistment deadline.
