This Saturday, October 30th, Alec Baldwin spoke on camera for the first time about the accident that caused the death of director of photography Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie “Rust”.
Accompanied by his wife, Halaria, the actor agreed to talk to the paparazzi so that they would stop chasing him on a Manchester road, a city that Baldwin and his family have been sheltering since the day of the accident, according to TMZ.
“She was my friend. The day I arrived in Santa Fe and started filming, I took her to dinner with Joel [Souza], the director. We were a really, really well-trained crew, shooting a movie together and then this horrible event happened” Baldwin said.
The actor said he cannot comment on the ongoing investigation by order of the Santa Fe police and spoke of the growing movement for the industry to rethink the use of firearms in film production.
A Change.org petition created on behalf of Halyna Hutchins calling for a ban on real firearms on sets and demanding better working conditions has garnered more than 81,000 signatures so far.
“An ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets is something I’m extremely interested in. I am not an expert in this field.
So whatever other people decide is the best way forward, in terms of protecting the safety of people on film sets, I’m all for it and I’m going to cooperate with it in any way I can” said Baldwin.

“There are no words to express my shock andTwitter sadness at the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, wife, mother and our deeply admired colleague. I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to resolve how this tragedy occurred and am in contact with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.
My heart is broken for her husband, her son and for everyone who knew and loved Halyna”.
