During their time in New York, BTS gave an interview to the ABC program Nightline. After commenting on his third UN appearance, Namjoon mentioned how he changed his perspective after the well-known misogyny controversy that Bangtan went through five years ago.

RM brought to the table what happened in 2015 and 2016 regarding the lyrics of some BTS songs. Rap verses were criticized for having misogynistic overtones and, as a songwriter, he took responsibility for it.

Personally, I received a lot of criticism re: misogyny in 2015 & 2016 which led me to get my lyrics reviewed by a women’s studies professor. It was an opportunity for me to self-reflect & question whether I’d been insensitive to gender equality.” Namjoon recalled.

The rapper said: “That experience was an opportunity for me to reflect and question whether I had been insensitive about gender equality. I want to do the best I can to learn about it and improve. That is my perspective now“.
