At noon on August 2 (KST), BLACKPINK made their official entry to Weverse, a fan platform that also hosts BTS, TXT, SEVENTEEN, ENHYPEN, and more. However, one incident sparked complaints from users from other groups.
HYBE’s Weverse is a social network-type app created two years ago, whose purpose is to be a link between artists and fans. Each group and fandom has its own space so that the user only receives notifications from the artists of their interest. Although some users had already reported receiving alerts from other idols before, this error was massive after the entry of BLACKPINK.

The girlband gathered more than 500,000 users in just half an hour and reached a million followers in just eight hours, the shortest time among all the groups that host the app. To kick off BLACKPINK’s space on Weverse, Jennie greeted her fans with a post. However, in addition to BLINK, fans of other groups started receiving notifications from the girlband and expressed their annoyance on social media.

The word “Weverse” was a trend on Twitter due to reports and some users speculated that it was “advertising for the new income“. BLINK also raised concerns about the danger that this bug could create unnecessary fanwar with fandoms who don’t want to receive alerts from BLACKPINK at all.
Then, after three hours, Weverse administrators sent a statement explaining that the incident was due to a glitch in the system. Although they avoided mentioning the name of the affected fandoms, the platform apologized to its users and reported that the problem was fixed.
“We are very sorry for the error in the Weverse community notifications. On August 2, between 12.00 p.m. m. and 12:48 p.m. m., a crash occurred and some Weverse users who had the push notifications feature enabled received alerts for a space they were not subscribed to.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to our users due to a temporary system error.
Weverse began the task of correcting the system as soon as the error was detected and the notification system is working normally.
We are committed to continually correcting technical errors and monitoring the system.
Again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to Weverse users and appreciate your understanding.
“
