Thousands of children and teenagers dream of an artistic career because of the idols of K-Pop.
But RM, a member of BTS , decided to get into music inspired by an artist from Canada: rapper Drake.
“Drake was the one who made me think I could sing in 2009 too (laughs) and that’s what brought me here. In the past, I wanted to do something like Drake. He influences Western music as the musical style he is after changes.
But since I don’t live my life the way they do, I can’t make exactly the same music they do” RM spoke in an interview with Weverse Magazine.
RM also spoke about the demand and pressure he faced behind the scenes in the industry throughout his life.

“From advancing a little more or making music that stands out better, smaller things like my rap technique, to bigger things like trends” he said.
“I wanted to be good at rap and I wanted some recognition. In that sense, you could say that [the song] ‘Bicycle’ is quite challenging. I wanted to release a song to celebrate the PARTY, but the subject is really important to me specifically”, he added.
In the interview, RM also talked about his decision to talk to fans about the difficult period that BTS faced between 2015 and 2017, even considering the “disband” .
“That’s why I want to be as honest with ARMY as I can be, almost obsessively,” he explained.
“They say that can’t happen in the K-pop world, and there’s a good faith aspect to it because I don’t want to worry the fans, but I want to tell them about the things we’ve been through as much as I can. Another reason I talked about that time was that I wanted to pay my debts to a lot of people.
Going over this story as if it never happened would be like saying ‘it’s not us’.
And because it’s in the past. I think since it’s in the past, and since we’re doing well now, and since those days were clearly needed, I think we have to be able to talk about how difficult a time like this was” he said.
