JYP Entertainment to debut new boy group through audition project

K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment and Sony Music Japan aim to launch a new K-pop boy group through a joint audition project, following the success of Japanese K-pop girl group NiziU. Under the plan, which is the second part of the “Project Nizi“, the two companies will hold auditions in eight cities throughout Japan, as well as in Seoul, Los Angeles and New York.

All of this auditions are to choose the members of the planned group, according to both companies.

The contestants will be evaluated in various categories, such as singing and dancing skills, modeling, rapping, and musical compositions, while JYP Entertainment head and K-pop guru Park Jin-young aka JY. Park will conduct the auditions in different cities.

The two companies plan to hold auditions through December and announce the members, who will debut as part of a new group, in December of next year.

The boy group’s official debut is tentatively scheduled for March 2023.

The audition, open to men under 23, is scheduled to air, although details on the date and the media have yet to be announced.

.

The first season of the project was broadcast on the Japanese television channel NTV and the video platform Hulu. The project takes place thanks to the success of NiziU, a Japanese female K-pop nonet, who debuted through said joint project. ()

The nine members of the band – Mako, Rio, Maya, Riku, Ayaka, Mayuka, Rima, Miihi and Nina – were trained by JYP and debuted in December 2020.

NiziU has successfully developed a really strong fan base in a relatively short period of time. Recently their last project is reaching the top of Japan’s major daily and weekly music charts with their second single, “Take a picture / Poppin’ Shakin“.
