YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk accused of covering up illegal substance use on idols

Yang Hyun Suk, founder and former CEO of YG Entertainment, has been indicted by the South Korean Public Ministry for trying to cover up a K-Pop idol’s drug use with money. The information is from the Yonhap News agency, according to the Koreaboo website. The post claims that Yang Hyun Suk will be on trial soon.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutor announced on Monday, June 7, that he had violated additional punishment laws for specific crimes due to the threat of retaliation to cover up the initial offense of drug use. According to investigations, Yang Hyun Suk attempted to alter the testimony of a witness before the Civil Rights and Anti-Corruption Commission. The witness (and the complainant) made a statement about a drug purchase made by artist BI in 2016.

The case has been under investigation since June 2020. BI had previously admitted in a letter to fans that he wanted to try drugs due to some negative events in his life.

However, he denied actual use and was acquitted of the charges at that time.

This is not the first time that YG Entertainment has been involved in a scandal.
