Apparently, the critic did not like too much the new album ‘Wonder’ by Shawn Mendes.
The Guardian said:
“The most handsome man in pop needs a personality. He talks about topics that may be important to his teenage fans.
Toxic masculinity, anxiety, the pressure to live under the eyes of social media, but it doesn’t do so in an original way. He spends a lot of ‘Wonder’ making metaphors for cliche stuff.
“
The Independent reported a a similar review:
“Despite the paucity of melodies and original ideas, there is a clear nod to All I Have To Do (1958) by the Everly Brothers. Throughout the album, Mendes draws on retro influences to adapt vintage tones with lots of acoustic touches. The adolescent audience may not be old enough to realize this.
“
Entertainment Weekly reviewed:
“At 22, Shawn Mendes is perhaps freer to express his taste for sexual tension and alcoholic beverages, to reflect on the vagaries of early fame. However, even these allusions can be unerringly restrained.
“
Pitchfork said:
“Shawn Mendes sounds like your friend who just got into a relationship and he won’t shut up about it. We are all happy for him but it is also extremely boring to always talk about the same thing ”.
On the other hand, it is expected that if it gets another bad review, the album will go down to yellow on Metacritic, at the moment it has a score of 62.
However, Shawn’s new project will be his fourth Top 1 on Billboard.
“Wonder” is on its way to debut at the top of the Billboard 200. According to initial forecasts already released by Hits Daily Double, the album will sell between 85,000 and 96,000 units. 58.000 of them in pure sales.
