In honor of the LGBTQ pride month, the television network that owns Sponge Bob and The Last Airbender has confirmed that some characters are allies of this community.

In addition, they are the chain that owns some equally unforgettable teenage comedies such as iCarly, Victorious and Drake and Josh.

Nickelodeon has confirmed this morning via Twitter that some of their most remembered characters are allies of the LGBTQ + community, these being sponge Bob, and Katara.

sponge Bob belongs to the animation with the same name, which consists of a sea sponge that is sarcastically illustrated as a kitchen sponge. This is easily the most valuable character for the television network, he has been promoted worldwide, and is an essential part of pop culture. The yellow face of this character, and his square pants, have been printed on T-shirts, bags, wallets, skates, pens and all kinds of children’s products.

Katara, the other inclusive character, is one of the protagonists of Avatar: the last Airbender, a girl with supernatural powers who can control water. Katara is the companion of Aang, the protagonist, who is an ancient monk who came to save the world after a 100 years crisis.

With this, Nickelodeon officially anounces their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Another television network that has declared to be an ally of this community is Disney, who included a gay character in the children’s drama. Andi Mack’s, last year.

Still, Nickelodeon has come under fire as part of the Twitter community called them out for covering up a sexual harassment scandal from one of it’s most successful producers, Dan Schneider, who was accused by several leading actresses of the youth series in which the producer worked a couple years ago.
